The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out of the Window and Disappeared (English Edition) Jonas Jonasson fiche de lecture -

Sitting quietly in his room in an old people's home, Allan Karlsson is waiting for a party he doesn't want to begin. His one-hundredth birthday party to be precise. The Mayor will be there. The press will be there. But, as it turns out, Allan will not . . .

Escaping (in his slippers) through his bedroom window, into the flowerbed, Allan makes his getaway. And so begins his picaresque and unlikely journey involving criminals, several murders, a suitcase full of cash, and incompetent police. As his escapades unfold, Allan's earlier life is revealed. A life in which - remarkably - he played a key role behind the scenes in some of the momentous events of the twentieth century.

Translated by Roy Bradbury.

3 internautes sur 3 ont trouvé ce commentaire utile.Surprise packagePar DédéCollineThe hundred-year-old man's life has more or less spanned the twentieth century and his expertise in explosives has led him to meet some of the most influential figures of the century including Franco, Truman and Oppenheimer. Despite his eventful life he remains hungry for adventure, and rather than celebrate his centenary in an old folks'home with the press and the local digitaries spouting plaisantaries, he makes an escape bid by climbing through the window, and is soon up to his wrinkly neck in trouble as he becomes imbroigled in a fifty-million crown robbery, and has to flee from the local crime ring. History merges with fiction in this surprise package of the year, making for a bloody good read!
